Basic characteristics and application overview of chlorinated binder MP Resin

Vinyl chloride copolymers(VC-Copolymers) is a chlorinated binder that is used for the manufacture of physically drying coatings on iron and steel, non-ferrous metals, mineral substrates as well as road marking paints resistant to hydrolysis. Its full name is copolymer of vinyl chloride and vinyl isobutyl ether.

In the market, customers like to call it Laroflex MP Resin.

It is a polymer copolymerized by 75% vinyl chloride (VC) and 25% vinyl isobutyl ether (IBVE), with a CAS number of 25154-85-2. Its physical properties are non-toxic, odorless white fine powder, which is widely used in the coating and ink industries.

In the field of coatings, chlorinated binder MP Resin is recognized as one of the top resins resistant to chemical and atmospheric aging due to its excellent corrosion resistance, solubility, adhesion and weather resistance. It is particularly suitable for anti-corrosion coatings such as industrial equipment, ships, bridges and other scenes. In the field of inks, chlorinated binder MP Resins (especially MP45 and MP60 models) have become an ideal choice for plastic gravure composite inks due to their wettability, miscibility and stability.

The Laroflex series (such as MP-25, MP-45) of BASF in Germany is a representative product of imported chlorinated binder MP Resins. In the past, domestic resins mainly occupied the mid- and low-end markets. However, with the discontinuation of BASF's Laroflex-related MP resin series in recent years, the quality of domestic resins has also been gradually improving. Currently, domestic MP resins can completely replace BASF's Laroflex series products.
